5×5: between the bun

Next Wednesday we mark the first holiday of summer- 4th of July or Independence Day.  Grills are being struck up nationwide in honor of warm weather, celebration, and carefree weekends.  I love the taste of hickory and mesquite smoked food, good conversation, and sparkling wine. As I prepare our holiday menu, I thought I’d share some of my inspirations.  What will you grill?

one/ minetta burger

two/ tandoori style

three/ tex-mex w. cajun mayo

four/ portobello mushroom

five/ lamb burger

alt-spired

I can’t rave enough about this collective called Alt Design Summit, where bloggers are supported and armed with the knowledge to become successful.  I was indirectly introduced to their yearly conference through this post which lead to many stories of an inviting, encouraging, positive, and outrageously fun-filled learning event. The type of experience that not only enriches ones life through education, but as a foundation for networking and building of friendships. I knew, I absolutely had to be a part of this conference, only to learn that the next one wasn’t until January 2013. ugh!  So imagine my joy when I learned that they also offer year round classes -on a variety of blogger inspired online courses for only $15!  I’ve taken three so far, with plans of participating in many more.

Alt recently surprised the blogosphere with news of a mini-Alt in NYC. We must #thankBING for their generous sponsorship of the August workshop!  Unfortunately for me, it sold completely out in 4 hours! Here’s hoping BING finds it in their “pockets” to sponsor more of these mini- Alt’s, leading up to the big one in Utah.  If you haven’t heard about Alt and are an aspiring blogger or creative type (or wannabe, like me) check out a class or two here.  These are the classes I’ve taken so far.

Yay!  It’s the first official weekend of summer. Here in Chicago, that means street and art fairs, music and food festivals, and farmers markets aplenty. Summertime is also when we start to plan fun and relaxing getaways, family reunions, bbqs, and, picnics.

I’ve been admiring here and here, oh and here!

I’m inspired by this new line, specifically these and these.

I would love to explore this and this, although not this weekend.

What are your weekend plans?

condo living: bag ‘o herbs

Condo living requires strategic organizational and planning skills.  My family of three inhabit 1020 sq feet of indoor space, with no backyard. Which had squelched my dream of planting a garden and living off of the bounty. Then I discovered a gem of an idea while perusing the kitchen area of Crate and Barrel- “bags of herbs”!  It just doesn’t get any sweeter than an indoor, window sill garden!

Grow right in the bag or plant in a pot, water, cut as needed, and enjoy!
